A new Texas law gives referees and officials more power to keep order at school sporting events.
Senate Bill 2929 amends the Education Code to allow referees, judges, and officials at UIL-sanctioned competitions to eject spectators immediately for inappropriate behavior. Previously, a verbal warning and repeated misconduct were required before removal.
The change, set to take effect in the 2025–26 school year, aims to improve safety and protect officials from harassment, threats, or disruptions during games.
