A Texarkana, Texas, man is facing charges after a deadly crash in June 2023 that killed a Hope, Arkansas, woman.
31-year-old Xavier Dequan Stewart is charged with negligent homicide and DWI—third or more offense. Authorities say Stewart had a blood alcohol level of .124 when he crashed his car off I-30 near the 23-mile marker, killing 21-year-old Nakhia Javon Booker.
Troopers found Stewart at the scene and say he admitted to nodding off behind the wheel. A child’s backpack with drug-related items was also found nearby.
Stewart has past DWI convictions, and prosecutors are seeking harsher penalties due to prior felonies.
He’s currently out on bond and is set to appear in court this week.
