Seven correctional officers at the Barry B. Telford Unit have been arrested on felony charges in connection with an alleged conspiracy to smuggle contraband into the Texas state prison.
The arrests followed an investigation led by the Office of the Inspector General (OIG) of the Texas Board of Criminal Justice, with help from local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies.
Four correctional officers — Mondraesha Quanee Davis, Joshua Demond David Johnson, Alexis Michelle Gregory, and Catherine Rene Davis — were charged with Engaging in Organized Criminal Activity. Captain Jessica Nichole Ricks and Sergeant Kimberly Renee Edwards face the same charge. Officer Brittanee Wade was charged with Bribery, Possession of Marijuana, and having a Prohibited Item/Substance in a Correctional Facility.
Seven search warrants were also executed at private residences tied to the case.
Officials emphasized that corruption will not be tolerated.
“TDCJ has zero tolerance for officer misconduct,” said OIG Inspector General Lance Coleman. “These arrests represent countless hours of investigative work.”
The Texas Department of Criminal Justice thanked multiple agencies for their support, including the Bowie County DA’s Office, Texarkana Police, Texas DPS, the FBI, and others.
