The Texas Department of Transportation says drivers on I-30 westbound in Texarkana will see new traffic changes this week as work continues to widen the interstate from four lanes to six.
The Texas Department of Transportation says drivers on I-30 westbound in Texarkana will see new traffic changes this week as work continues to widen the interstate from four lanes to six.
Since last June, eastbound traffic between Summerhill Road and State Line Avenue has been shifted onto the frontage road while crews replaced the eastbound bridge over the railroad.
Starting Tuesday at 8 p.m., westbound traffic will also be shifted. Drivers in the left lane will move onto new pavement and use what will now be called the "left-thru lane." This lane will run for six miles, from east of Summerhill Road to west of Kings Highway, with no exits.
The right lane will be designated for local traffic, now called the "right-local lane," and will stay on the current interstate main lane. Nightly ramp work will also take place from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., with right-local lane traffic detoured to the frontage road overnight. During the day, traffic will return to the interstate.
TxDOT urges drivers to slow down and use extra caution while traveling through the work zone.
