The Miller County Sheriff’s Office has announced the arrest of 64-year-old Michael Letterman for the 1991 murder of his wife, Billie Jean Letterman. Deputies found Billie Jean dead from a gunshot wound inside her home near Highway 82 back in August 1991. Despite an extensive investigation, the case went cold for decades.
In July 2023, new evidence was returned from the state crime lab, prompting investigators to reopen the case and conduct new interviews. This led to a breakthrough earlier this month. On October 15th, an arrest warrant was issued, and Letterman later turned himself in. Sheriff Wayne Easley praised his team’s dedication, saying the arrest brings long-awaited justice to one of the county’s oldest unsolved cases.
